Trust Sweet Iron Hanging Cheek Eliptical
The hanging cheek is a type of snaffle with smaller rings attached on top of the rings. The cheek piece is attached to the upper rings and the reins to the snaffle. This gives the bit a slight leverage effect. The hanging cheek is often used by pony riders in the higher class, but can also be used to make the transition from a regular snaffle to a double-butted snaffle easier.
The double-jointed bit has two hinge points, is shaped more to the mouth and lies somewhat looser in the mouth. This bit works on the tongue, the bars and the corners of the mouth. Be careful with narrow lower jaws, as the hinge points can press on the bars, which can cause wounds. Compared to a single-jointed bit, this bit works more on the tongue. A double-jointed mouthpiece is a standard mouthpiece.
The Sweet Iron bits are made of steel and have a recognisable blue colour. Sweet Iron develops surface rust through contact with (air) humidity that tastes sweet and naturally stimulates the horse's saliva production. This will cause the horse to foam more, which ensures better acceptance of the bit. This rust process (oxidation) changes the blue colour of the Trust bits to brown-grey.
