The Ultimate Guide to Wellies

15 Oct 25 | Olivia Craddock

Autumn is gently (and very kindly) descending upon us, with fresh dew in the morning I have now swapped my trainers for wellies to do the morning and evening stables. A good pair of wellies isn't just a luxury, it's a necessity!

With so many options available, how do you find the best wellies for you? High on the priority list for me is comfort, support, longevity, and actually being waterproof.

Well Equitogs keeps it simple by only offering the best… Le Chameau, Ariat and Holland Cooper!

My Ultimate guide will help you decide which wellies are the best fit for your lifestyle and requirements.

Style: Country Classics vs Modern Chic

The Heritage Icon

Le Chameau is synonymous with country heritage. They are hand crafted and timeless, with a sleek rubber finish, they look equally as good with a pair of jeans or breeches. Their classic Vierzonord is instantly recognised at country shows, dog walks and shoots.

Rugged Yet Refined

Ariat are more rugged yet refined. Ariat leans heavily into its equestrian roots, prioritising practicality, durable finishes and subtle detailing. They're versatile too, ideal for yard duties as well as smart enough for casual wear.

Fashion Meets Function

Holland Cooper is where fashion meets function. Holland Cooper wellies bring a touch of luxury to the field with glossy finishes, gold hardware and a flattering, more tailored fit. They are as a home on the high street as they are in a muddy field.

Comfort: All-Day Support

Tailored Fit & Warmth

Le Chameau is known for its soft rubber and different lining options (Neoprene for ultimate warmth, leather for breathability and jersey for year round use). They fit like a glove with different calf size options and adjustable gussets. Ideal for all countryside pursuits and sports. The footbed is extremely comfortable for long hours of use.

Advanced Arch Support

Ariat has developed ATS technology, a system designed for arch support, cushioning and shock absorption. I would always recommend these boots for people requiring more arch support, especially those on their feet all day, either mucking out or working outdoors.

Warm, Cushioned Luxury

Holland Cooper have cushioned insoles and a contoured design that keep them super comfortable. Although with a heavy emphasis on fashion, several styles are shearling lined and offer a lot of warmth during the colder winter months.

Performance: Built for the Elements

Premium Craftsmanship

Le Chameau is a popular choice with farmers, equestrians and serious outdoor users. They have a slightly higher price point, but this is validated with a 2-year warranty, incredibly durable soles, and a hand crafted rubber construction that ensures they last for years to come.

Equestrian Strength

Ariat puts performance first, their waterproof membranes and high traction soles are built for outdoor/yard life.

Everyday Lifestyle Use

Holland Cooper are aimed at a lifestyle of lighter use, perfect for taking you from the yard to the school run.

Which Wellies Are Best for You?

In conclusion, a great pair of wellies can be an investment so I really hope the above helps, for me, I have a pair of Le Chameau Vierzonords (neoprene lined). I was lucky enough that they were a Christmas gift, and I love them.

For a more affordable option which is just as practical, the Ariat Woodstock is a brilliant choice. I like the arch support they offer for people who suffer from wearing flat soled boots for long periods of time.

The Holland Cooper wellies are a fun fashion statement. You can go bold with the patent croc or keep it sophisticated with the matt green.

Just to throw you, Ariat also offer the Kelmarsh Shorties… a trainer/wellie hybrid. Ideal to keep by the back door and slip on to nip down to the yard or bring in the bins… they will be on my Christmas list this year for sure!
